A carbonized bamboo panel for landscape projects is thermally treated so the sugars that attract mould and insects are largely removed and the colour deepens to a stable brown. That combination — hard, dark, dimensionally calm — is why it is used for pergolas, pavilions, screening, decking and landscape furniture.
What carbonization changes
- Colour becomes a rich, even brown that needs no staining.
- Starch and sugars are reduced, improving resistance to mould and termite.
- Moisture movement falls, so panels stay flatter outdoors.
- Surface hardness makes the material suitable for load-bearing landscape members.
Typical landscape applications
- Pergola and pavilion — beams, columns and rafters as solid engineered bamboo sections.
- Screening and fencing — slats and panels for privacy and wind control.
- Decking and boardwalks — grooved boards on a ventilated substructure.
- Landscape furniture — benches, planters and feature elements.
Design details that protect the material
Keep end grain out of standing water, create a drainage slope, allow ventilation behind panels, and specify stainless fixings. Where the project is coastal or high-UV, confirm the coating system and re-coating interval with the supplier before ordering.
Colour and finish options
Light-carbon keeps a warm natural tone; high-carbon gives a deeper espresso brown. Both can be supplied smooth, grooved or wire-brushed depending on the design intent.
